Why did George Clooney only appear in one full Batman movie?

When Batman & Robin hit cinemas during Summer 1997, the critical and commercial response to the movie was less than favourable. Critics did not care for the film and audience attendance was less than encouraging.

Warner Bros. Pictures had initially planned to continue the Batman movie series with another entry, which would have featured George Clooney, but those plans were abandoned. When the Batman movie series was eventually restarted, it was via a reboot (Batman Begins), so Clooney was no longer required to play the Caped Crusader.

He was asked back for a quick cameo for 2023’s The Flash, but this was as an in-joke for fans. He did not put on the Bat-suit for this movie.
