Here’s a question for you: When Anne Hathaway was auditioning for the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises (2012), did she mistakenly think she was auditioning for the role of Harley Quinn?
Yes? No?
Well, if you said yes, you would be correct!

When the actress met with the film’s director, Christopher Nolan, she believed she was trying to bag the role of Harley Quinn and not Catwoman. It was only once she was partway into her audition that she learned the truth.
Speaking in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Movies That Made Me, Hathaway said: “I came in and I had this lovely Vivian Westwood kind of beautiful-but-mad tailoring top with stripes going everywhere.

“And I wore these flat Joker-ey looking shoes. And I was trying to give Chris (Nolan) these crazy little smiles.
“About an hour into the meeting he said ‘Well, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this, but it’s Catwoman’.”
It was at this point the actress had to think on her feet, and switch one audition style for the next. The goofiness of Harley was jettisoned, and the sexiness of Catwoman was brought in.
She said: “I was shifting into a different gear. ‘Now ok, we’re slinky. We’re slinky. And I hate my shirt. I love my shirt, but I hate it right now. We’re slinky.’”
Luckily for Hathaway, this confusion didn’t cause any major problems – she got the role of Catwoman regardless. And of course, Harley Quinn appeared on screen in 2016’s Suicide Squad, with Margot Robbie in the role; so it all worked out in the end. But what a save!

It just goes to show, regardless of how badly an audition (or an interview) goes, hang in there because you might be able to turn the tide.
