In 1986, DC Comics gave Superman an overhaul, to make the character more accessible to modern readers. The plan was to rework and streamline the Superman mythology, updating elements of Superman’s story along the way.

The reboot began with a six-part mini-series called Man of Steel. From here this new era of Superman stories continued in the pages of Action Comics, Superman, and Adventures of Superman, as well as other associated titles.

If you missed out on these stories the first time around, don’t worry – DC Comics has since republished these comics in a series of trade paperbacks (and in a digital format). This extensive run of Man of Steel stories gives readers the chance to visit or revisit a superb era of Superman’s past, and are certainly worth checking out.

But how many of these books were published? Well, it’s probably more than you think.
