Cast your mind back a few years. Do you remember seeing a television commercial for Snickers?

Let me be more specific. Do you remember seeing a television commercial for Snickers, which featured the Joker?

No? Well let me remind you.

Back in 2011, Batman’s most famous foe appeared in an advertisement for the nutty (and rather delicious) chocolate bar. The DC Comics character cropped up in the 30-second advert to bring attention to the sweet treat.

In the commercial, four friends are seated around a table playing a game of cards – and one of them is the Joker. And with the Joker in tow, the game quickly descends into chaos.

As the situation escalates, one of the friends intervenes and offers the Clown Prince of Crime a Snickers bar. After one bite, the Joker disappears from the table, leaving a hungry (but now satisfied) fourth friend in his place, content that he has a Snickers in his hand.

The humorous advert was created as part of Mars Incorporated’s long-running promotional campaign “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry.” The premise of each ad plays on the idea that people can act a little erratic when they are hungry.

The highly successful run of ads has proved very popular over the years, and has incorporated various celebrities and iconic characters including Mr. T, Elton John, Mr. Bean and Joan Collins. If you don’t recall the Joker ad, here it is in all its glory.

This Joker commercial was, and still is, a heap of fun. The Joker’s unpredictable and temperamental personality fits in perfectly with the concept of this campaign, and most important of all… it made me want to eat a Snickers.
