All 55 villains in The Lego Batman Movie

The Lego Batman Movie (2017) is loaded with in-jokes, nods and various winks to Batman mythology. From links to cartoons and comic books, to lines from the Batman movies, the references are never-ending.

The film is also packed full of Batman villains – 39 of them! This is the most Batman foes to ever appear in one film (and there are even more villains in the movie).

But who are all the villains in The Lego Batman Movie and are they proper Batman bad guys and gals?

Well, to answer those questions, here is every Batman villain featured in The Lego Batman Movie. I’ve also included details of where these characters first appeared.

#1 – Calendar Man

Calendar Man might seem like a made-up villain, but he’s not! He first entered Batman mythology via the pages of Detective Comics, appearing in issue #259 in 1958.

#2 – Bane

Bane is a character that most people are familiar with thanks to his inclusion in movies and television shows, but he made his debut in comic, in the pages of Batman: Vengeance of Bane issue #1 in 1993.

For The Lego Batman Movie, Bane’s appearance and mannerisms are heavily borrowed from the 2012 movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

#3 & #4 – Captain Boomerang / Two-Face

Captain Boomerang (left) appeared in The Flash issue #117 in 1960, while Harvey ‘Two-Face’ Dent (right) appeared in Detective Comics #66 in 1942. In The Lego Batman Movie, Two-Face is voiced by Billy Dee Williams – the actor who played the role of Harvey Dent in 1989’s Batman.

#5 – Catman

Nope, not Catwoman, but Catman! Yep, he’s a real Batman villain and he made his first appearance in Detective Comics issue #311 in 1963.

#6 – Catwoman

Catwoman is one of the most famous Batman villains, having appeared in comics, movies and TV shows. She first appeared in comics in Batman issue #1 back in 1940.

#7 & #8 – Clayface / Mr. Freeze

In the comics and cartoons, Clayface (left) is the name of multiple villains. The first character to adopt the name was Basil Karlo, who made his debut in Detective Comics issue #40.

As for Mr. Freeze (right), he first appeared in 1959 in the pages of Batman issue #121. During his initial appearance he was called Mr. Zero, but was re-titled Mr. Freeze for the 1960s Batman TV show.

#9, #10 & #11 – Clock King / Zebra-Man / Zodiac Master

Clock King (left) made his debut in World’s Finest Comics #111 in 1960; Zebra-Man (middle) first appeared in Detective Comics issue #275 in 1960; and Zodiac Master (right) first appeared in Detective Comics issue #323 in 1964.

Condiment King was initially created for a one-off appearance in Batman: The Animated Series via the 1995 episode, Make ‘Em Laugh. Yes, he’s a real character!

Crazy Quilt (left) first appeared in Boy Commandos issue #15 in 1946. Eraser (right) made his debut in Batman issue #188 in 1966.

#15 – Egghead

Egghead made his debut via the 1966 Batman TV show. The character was played by Vincent Price.

#16 – Gentleman Ghost

Gentleman Ghost first appeared in comics, debuting in Flash Comics issue #88 in 1947.

The Joker (left) made his first appearance in Batman issue #1 in 1940. Harley Quinn (right) was created in 1992, making her first appearance in Batman: The Animated Series.

Killer Croc appeared in comics for the first time back in 1983, via Batman issue #357.

Killer Moth has been a part of the Batman mythology since 1951! He made his first appearance in Batman issue #63.

King Tut made his first appearance in the Batman mythology via the 1966 Batman TV show, where he was played by Victor Buono.
