How much money did Batman & Robin make at the box office?

In 1997, Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin arrived in cinemas. George Clooney took on the role of the Caped Crusader, opposite a cast that included Chris O’Donnell, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman and Alicia Silverstone.

The film opened to a poor critical reception and quickly picked up a reputation for being an unpopular entry in the Batman movie series, but how well did it do financially? Did Batman & Robin still make money, despite an underwhelming critical reaction?

How much money did Batman & Robin make at the box office?

During its opening weekend in the US, Batman & Robin took over $42.8 million at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the exact total was $42,872,605.

This was a slow start for the movie, which had a production budget of $125 million, and not as strong as the opening weekend of its predecessor, Batman Forever. However, things picked up a little and by the end of Batman & Robin’s domestic run the film had notched up $107,325,195.

As you can see, the domestic figure did not quite reach the production budget. But the overall total was boosted by the international box office, where Batman & Robin took a further $130,881,927.

Combining the two figures from the domestic box office and the international box office, gave Batman & Robin an overall total of $238,207,122. Not the best total for a Batman movie.

The re-release 

In 2019, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Caped Crusader, Batman & Robin was re-released at the cinema as part of a limited screening alongside Batman ’89 (1989), Batman Returns (1992), and Batman Forever (1995). After the re-release, Batman & Robin made a further $28,793 domestically and $196 internationally, producing a combined total of $28,989.

Not a huge increase in income, but it all adds to the pot.
